Make Your Candles Last Longer – And Help the Planet While You’re At It

There’s something deeply comforting about lighting a candle. Whether it’s part of your wind-down routine or a cozy addition to your home on dark evenings, candles are a simple pleasure that many of us enjoy – often daily.

In fact, here in Sweden, we’re known to burn over 200 million candles per year. That’s a lot of wax, wicks, and glass containers. But here’s the good news: with a few small changes, you can make your candles last longer, reduce waste, and even save money – all without giving up the glow.

Sustainable candle care: small tools, big impact 🕯️

Most candles don’t burn out – they burn badly. They tunnel, they smoke, they waste wax. But that’s where a few simple tools come in:

  • Wick trimmer: Keeping your wick at the ideal length (around 5 mm) prevents soot, flickering, and uneven burning. It also helps your candle burn more efficiently.
  • Wick dipper: Instead of blowing out your candle, use a dipper to gently fold the wick into the melted wax and back up again. This snuffs the flame without smoke – and coats the wick for a cleaner light next time.
  • Snuffer: For bigger candles or pillars, a classic snuffer prevents wax splatter and keeps your candle looking pristine.

These tiny rituals extend the life of your candles and help you get every drop of value – all while reducing waste.

Extra tips for long-lasting candles:

  • Let it pool. Always burn your candle long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edges. This prevents tunneling and helps it burn evenly.
  • Don’t overdo it. Avoid burning your candle for more than 3–4 hours at a time. Too much heat can damage the wick or cause the scent to fade.
  • Keep it clean. Trim away any debris or wick bits between burns to prevent smoking.
  • Store smart. Keep candles out of direct sunlight and away from dust. A clean, cool place preserves both the wax and the scent.

What about the lighter?

Disposable lighters and matches may seem harmless, but they add up over time. Switching to a rechargeable electric lighter is an easy win – no waste, no gas, just a clean spark every time.

One candle, many burns. One habit, less waste.

The best part about these changes? They’re simple. You don’t have to give up candles to be eco-conscious – just treat them a little more kindly. A trimmer here, a dipper there, and your evening ritual becomes just a bit greener.

We believe in sustainable coziness, one flame at a time - for a greener world 🌱🥰
