Libyan Desert Glass – Space Stone from the Sahara
This brilliant yellow-green glass was formed when a meteorite struck the Libyan desert nearly 29 million years ago. The extreme heat melted the quartz sand of the Sahara, creating a natural glass that can still be found scattered across miles of desert.
The most iconic example? A scarab carved from Libyan glass – placed in the middle of an ornate chest plate found in the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun.
Why you'll love it:
• Formed by a meteorite collision in the northeastern Sahara.
• The same type of glass that adorned King Tutankhamun's iconic jewel.
• Natural, unpolished and full of history – each piece is unique.
• Supplied in an acrylic capsule with a sample of 1–2 grams.
• Perfect for collectors, space lovers or those drawn to the mythical.
Specifications:
• Weight: Approximately 1–2 grams.
• Packaging: Acrylic capsule.
• Origin: Libyan Desert, North Africa.
• Variation: Color and shape vary naturally between specimens.
Want to explore the desert even deeper?
Our Sahara Sand and the Libyan Desert Glass are two sides of the same story. The sand represents the ancient landscape of the desert – the glass is the result of the meteorite that hit this very spot almost 29 million years ago. Upon impact, the intense pressure and heat melted the quartz sand into glass.
